Leeds United told to pay £6.7m plus add-ons to sign Wilfried Gnonto as bid submitted

Leeds United have been told to pay £6.7million plus bonuses to sign Wilfried Gnonto from FC Zurich, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper reported via their print edition on Thursday (18 August, page 20) that Leeds have offered around £4.2million for the 18-year-old Italy international.

However, Zurich are demanding more, plus add-ons, for their title-winning star of the 2021/22 season.

Corriere dello Sport adds Hoffenheim of Germany and Feyenoord of the Netherlands are also keen on Gnonto.

If Leeds are only a couple of million short of meeting Zurich’s valuation for Gnonto then we’d expect an agreement to be reached soon.

Gnonto is an exciting young player in Switzerland who’s already made his first four appearances for the senior Italy national team.

In June, he became Italy’s youngest-ever goalscorer when he found the back of the net against Germany in the UEFA Nations League.

The Italian has also won the Swiss Super League with Zurich and is playing in European competition with them having scored against Linfield in Europa League qualifying earlier this month.

Zurich have started this season poorly and are without a win in five Super League matches and that will surely lead to Gnonto thinking it might be time to jump ship.

He is, however, in the last year of his contract anyway so Zurich are not in a powerful position by any means when it comes to their negotiations with Leeds.

Andrea Radrizzani should sanction spending a bit more than £4.2million to sign his fellow Italian.

Gnonto is a versatile 18-year-old forward who can star up front or on the left-wing.

Let’s get him in.
