Leeds United told to add experienced stars to their squad this summer to help young talents

Simon Grayson believes Leeds United will target experienced Championship players this summer to complement their contingent of young stars.

After the disappointment of losing 1-0 in the Play-Offs to Southampton, the Whites now have to turn their attention to the transfer market.

There is potential that key stars like Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter will leave to free up finances for incomings.

Daniel Farke will have a balancing act to build a squad to look at promotion again next season and speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post (31 May), Grayson believes a mix of experience and youth could be key.

He said: “I think this year will be a great learning experience for the likes of Gruev, Archie Gray and the younger players. People do forget and will forget how young a squad this is.

“There’ll be an influx of players who will come in who might just have a bit more experience of the Championship in the summer because it’s already a young group.”

With the financial concerns which may see Leeds forced into selling up to £100 million worth of players [The Daily Mail] this summer, signings may be hard to come by.

This may have been cancelled out somewhat by the news of investment from Red Bull which will provide a boost.

Although the likes of Summerville, Rutter and Wilfried Gnonto are likely to depart this summer regardless, there is hope of keeping hold of their younger stars.

Gray has been one of the best players at Elland Road this campaign under Farke despite being just 18 years old.

Keeping hold of him is something that every Leeds fan will be desperate for. The debate will come if and when a bid comes in from a Premier League side.

The Whites can not afford to sell all their best players and start completely from scratch next season if they want to be promoted.

A foundation of last season’s squad must be kept if Farke wants to aim for the top spots in the Championship next season.
