Leeds United told they can repeat Calvert-Lewin trick as Harvey Elliott enquiry mooted
Leeds United could ask Liverpool about the availability of Harvey Elliott this summer.
The Whites are looking ahead to another season in the Premier League, and the goal remains the same.
Avoiding relegation will be the target and the transfer strategy is going to have that in mind.
Boxing clever in the summer market could involve signing undervalued players and the attacking midfielder is certainly that right now.
The Englishman is coming off the back of a frustrating year at Aston Villa, but Leeds could soon give Elliott a fresh start.
Leeds United to ask for Harvey Elliott asking price
The 23-year-old has been one of the saddest stories of the campaign just gone after joining the Villans on loan last summer.
He played just nine times in claret and blue as Unai Emery was reluctant to activate his £35million buy option.
The England under-21 international will now return to Anfield to be assessed over pre-season by Andoni Iraloa.
As part of that, his future will certainly be discussed, with there likely to be interest despite his Villa Park struggles.
Leeds have been mooted as a potential destination, but it will all depend on the demands Liverpool set.
Former scout Bryan King believes an Elland Road move would be positive and has urged the Whites to ask about Elliott’s availability.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, King said: “I would say a move to Leeds would be a good shout.
“They need to ask Liverpool what the asking price is and go from there.
“He’ll either go out on loan or go for a cut-price deal because lower Premier League sides will be interested.
“Leeds were brave enough to go for Calvert-Lewin, so they may take a risk on him.”
Elliott could be excellent if Leeds give him the chance, but it will all depend on what fee the Reds will demand this summer.
How far could Leeds go to sign Elliott?
It feels as if an Anfield exit would make total sense after such a disappointing campaign with the Villans.
Unless the incoming manager, likely to be Andoni Iraola, takes a liking to him, a departure appears to be the best option for everyone involved.
Leeds could prove to be a dream landing destination for all after utilising two number 10-type players in behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
That could prompt the Whites to move quickly for Elliott but obviously won’t be willing to pay the £35m that Villa refused to pay in the summer.
Something closer to £15m may prove to be better for the Elland Road outfit, although it would likely need to be less than that.
Even a loan with an obligation to buy for that sort of fee or more could make sense moving forward.
Elliott could be a star if given a chance to thrive in LS11, but as long as the price is right for all parties.
