Leeds United to watch Sasa Lukic at Qatar World Cup ahead of possible January transfer
Leeds will watch Serbia midfielder Sasa Lukic during the World Cup in Qatar ahead of a potential January transfer, according to Calciomercato.
The Torino midfielder has been in fine form this season, hitting three goals in 17 appearances and has alerted the attention of the Elland Road hierarchy who are keen to strengthen the side in January.
Leeds are interested in doing a deal in January but will have to battle with Serie A giants Roma for his signature, and a fresh report on Wednesday (23 November) states that they’ll be keeping a close eye on him during the World Cup tournament.
“Sasa Lukic’s adventure in Turin seems to be getting closer to the end credits,” they wrote.
“The midfielder is followed by Roma but also admirers in the Premier League.
“On the trail of the number 10 there is indeed Leeds.
“At the moment there is no negotiation yet but the English club will also closely observe the Turin midfielder during the World Cup in Qatar, who will be busy with Serbia.”
Lukic has been linked to the club for a while now, stretching back to Marcelo Bielsa’s reign in charge and would provide an interesting option from midfield.
With Marsch having his midfield axis of Tyler Adams and Marc Roca pretty set, it seems as though the intention is to sign cover or competition for those players rather than someone to oust them.
That would see Lukic be a pretty good option, however if the aim is to play him as a ten then it’s something that should be ignored considering his relatively poor scoring rate and underwhelming performances in a league more suited to his style.
Leeds have got funds to add players to the squad and midfield is a position that does need to be deeper, especially with Mateusz Klich unhappy about his lack of playing time.
There is plenty of time and the club are obviously active in Qatar looking at future business, so it could be that he’s one of many options, so it’s not one for Whites fans to get too carried away with just yet.
