Leeds United may have been in line for a huge windfall this summer had it not been for one overlooked detail in the exit of Crysencio Summerville.

The Whites have several stars looking to make their mark in the World Cup this summer, though only two of them have actually made an appearance.

That being Gabriel Gudmundsson and Ao Tanaka, the latter of whom started for Japan in their 4-0 win over Tunisia on Sunday.

With that said, they have several ex-players also making an impression on the biggest stage, with Summerville being one of them.

The Dutchman departed Elland Road two summers ago after a standout campaign in the Championship, but as of right now, finds himself back in it after West Ham were relegated.

Summerville will be hoping to impress for the Netherlands to boost his chance of a move, though by doing so, it may force Leeds into regretting his exit, or at least one specific part of it.

Do Leeds have a sell-on clause for Summerville?

After a young winger scored 20 goals in the Championship goals and attacrted interest from the Premier League, many would have assumed that Leeds would have a sell-on clause.

But as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, that is understood to not be the case, and it could prove to be a major oversight.

Summerville has managed two goals and assist in just 115 minutes of World Cup action, which is sure to have driven his price up.

Tom Rennie, the presenter of The Football Show, took to X after his latest display to say how Summerville "looks an £80million player".

West Ham are unlikely to receive quite that much money for his exit this summer, but it is certain to be an amount which Leeds will wish they had received a portion of.

How Leeds can repeat Summerville success this summer

No one had heard of Summerville before his move to Leeds, though almost everyone has heard of him since.

And that is the type of profile that the Whites should be looking to add to their squad this summer.

A young, exciting winger with the data to showcase his potential would not only benefit the Whites in their hunt for progression, but also financially down the line.

Either way, they need to learn from this in their future endeavours.
