Leeds United to receive £428k loan fee as Maximilian Wober deal to join Borussia Moenchengladbach agreed

Leeds United have agreed a deal to loan Max Wober to Borussia Moenchengladbach for a £428,00 fee, according to Sky Sports.

Writing on their official website (27 July), journalist Marlon Irlbacher is reporting that there has been a breakthrough in talks between the clubs and a loan deal has been agreed.

The Austrian defender told Leeds he wanted to leave ahead of their pre-season clash last week and now has his wish, with a move to the Bundesliga set to take place.

“According to information from Sky reporter Marlon Irlbacher, Maximilian Wöber is about to move to Borussia Mönchengladbach,” they wrote. “Sky reported negotiations with the Leeds United central defender a week ago – now there has been a breakthrough.

“Wöber is initially loaned to Gladbach for one year thanks to a “loan clause” in his contract, the loan fee is 500,000 euros (£428,000). The change will initially take place regardless of whether Nico Elvedi stays at Borussia Mönchengladbach or leaves the club.”

Inevitable

As soon as Wober told the club he wanted to leave for the Bundesliga club, it was a matter of when and not if a deal would happen.

He only joined in the January window and thus clearly felt like he didn’t have many loyalties or ties to the club, and wanted to play at a higher level than the Championship.

That’s fair enough on his part, but to leave it so late in the window is a shame with the new Championship season set to start in a little over a week.

Leeds United

Securing a loan fee for his exit is good business for the Whites, and with no buy option likely in the deal there is always the chance he returns to Elland Road next season should we have a good year.

It’s unlikely the fans will take to him the same way again, and it’s likely that we’ve seen the last of him in a Leeds shirt at this point, but you never know.

A deal is done and Farke can plan for life without him now, which can only be a good thing for preparations.
