Leeds United to profit on in-and-out midfielder transfers as Elland Road bid submitted
Graham Smyth has backed Leeds United to make a profit by bringing in Dejan Ljubicic following the sale of Glen Kamara.
As per The Athletic’s Nancy Froston via X (25 July), the Whites have seen a bid rejected for 1. FC Köln midfielder Ljubicic.
However, while speaking on Leeds United – Inside Elland Road (25 July), the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Joe Donnohue has backed Daniel Farke’s side to return for the 26-year-old.
Donnohue said, “They had two bids rejected for (Jayden) Bogle before a fee was agreed – and I could see a similar scenario playing out with Ljubicic.”
And Smyth responded, “They got a fee in the region of £8million for (Glen) Kamara.
“If they then replace Kamara with something that they need a bit more, in terms of somebody being more suited to the offensive side of things in the eight role, for a lot less money, less than they got for Kamara, then that is a nice little earner.”
Leeds United to sign Dejan Ljubicic to replace Glen Kamara at Elland Road
Supporters at Elland Road would have no doubt been frustrated to see the back of Kamara.
He enjoyed a positive debut season with Leeds and could have once again proved to be a useful member of the squad next season as Daniel Farke looks to guide the Whites back to the Premier League.
However, after missing out on promotion last season, it was always inevitable that player sales would be needed to raise some cash.
Therefore, if Leeds can eventually agree on a deal for Ljubicic, who can act as a replacement for Kamara, and bank a tidy profit in the process, it would be hard for supporters to have many complaints.
Of course, a lot of fans might not know much about Ljubicic. However, that is not to say that the Austria international can’t arrive in the EFL Championship and adapt.
Making money is a priority for Leeds right now, and if they can do that with an in-and-out transfer which doesn’t upset the balance of the squad, then it is a win-win.
In other Leeds United news, Farke has been blown away by what one youngster at the club has done during pre-season.
