Leeds United to entertain offers for full Max Wober sale amid ‘cash strapped’ update
Max Wober is widely expected to leave Leeds United this summer, but his situation has become less clear due to Borussia Monchengladbach’s financial situation.
TalkSPORT journalist Ben Jacobs insists the German outfit are strapped for cash, meaning Wober will likely return to Elland Road at the end of his loan spell, with no option to buy in place.
It has also been said that Leeds will entertain offers for him elsewhere, despite the short amount of time spent at the club, joining in January 2023 just to leave last summer on loan following relegation.
Speaking to Give Me Sport [17 March], Jacobs reported: “Yeah, they are cash strapped and obviously, Wober only joined Leeds for about £11m in January 2023.
“The loan deal expires, to my understanding, in June, and I’m not aware of an option or an obligation to buy. So the feeling is that Wober will return anyway, and then what’s less clear is what Leeds’ plan is from there. I think that it will depend on the player as well.
“But it wouldn’t surprise me if Leeds entertain offers over the course of the summer, even though the player, as I say, only joined Leeds relatively recently.”
Could Max Wober return to Leeds United this summer?
While it now seems likely that Wober will make a return to Elland Road, it appears unlikely that he will stick around for very long – perhaps a familiar story to Leeds fans who saw the defender make an exit as soon as possible following last season’s disappointment.
The news about Monchengladbach’s financial difficulties does not come as any surprise after it was recently reported that they would be unable to raise enough funds to afford Leeds’ probable asking price.
It was also reported that a further complication could emerge for the defender if Leeds earn promotion from the Championship, which comes from the suggestion that they will be in a stronger financial position if they are in the Premier League.

With Leeds having moved to the top of the Championship after their 2-0 win against Millwall on 17 March, the likelihood of promotion just became stronger, which will likely have a direct effect on Wober’s future in Germany.
