Leeds United to bank £40m for Archie Gray sale as ‘last minute hijack’ verdict emerges
Leeds United are set to bank £40million for the sale of Archie Gray to Brentford should all add-ons be met, according to Nizaar Kinsella.
Writing on his personal X account (29 June), the BBC Sport journalist reports that payment structure for the deal is still being discussed while Gray travels to London for his medical.
But with interest from a host of clubs competing in Europe, Kinsella admitted there is “still time for a last minute hijack” to take place should someone else make their move.
Leeds United fans will be furious with Archie Gray sale
Every Leeds fan was accepting of the fact that sales had to be made this summer, and there was always a sense that Gray would be targeted.
But it was top clubs who were supposed to prize him away from Elland Road, and with no disrespect intended to Brentford, they simply aren’t that.
PSR rules have forced the Whites to have to sell their crown jewel and £40million is a huge sum of money for a player with just one season of senior football under his belt, and has never stepped foot in the Premier League.
But there is still a chance those top clubs come in and match the terms of Brentford’s deal, but it now seems a case of when not if he leaves Leeds.
It’s a huge shame and it’s being done reluctantly by all parties, but Leeds are being dealt a huge blow in their push for promotion before the team has even returned for pre-season.
