Leeds United tipped to splash £20m on ‘Incredible’ Joe Rodon transfer

Leeds United could be forced to pay between £15-20m to sign Joe Rodon permanently from Tottenham, according to Alasdair Gold.

The Whites signed the Wales international on a season-long loan last summer with no option to buy, and he has emerged as one of the most important members of the squad under Daniel Farke.

The boss has already admitted an interest in making the loan move permanent this summer, but speaking on the Gold & Guest Talk podcast (23 February) journalist Gold believes Spurs will push for around £20m to allow that to happen so they can make a profit on the deal.

“I think Joe Rodon’s going to go for a fair whack of money,” said Gold. “I think this is exactly what Spurs want from these kind of loan deals.

“Especially with Leeds having no option on the deal, Rodon could be up there. You know, he could be like £15m upwards.

“Maybe even if he is incredible and gets them [promoted], you could be looking at £20m. Spurs could end up making a profit on him.”

Leeds United have a big decision to make

It’s going to be a huge summer transfer window at Elland Road, with some huge decisions to make on the playing squad whether Leeds get promoted or not.

If they do, then Daniel Farke will need to evaluate the squad and see where he can strengthen to ensure the team aren’t immediately sent back to the Championship like his Norwich sides were.

But if they don’t then it will be hard for the squad to be kept together with the likes of Rodon, Crysencio Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto and Ethan Ampadu surely going to attract interest from some top-flight clubs.

If Rodon is willing to stay, then the club must decide if splashing up to £20m on a player while you’re in the second tier is sensible and if a central defender is the one you want to do that for.

All attention must be on securing Premier League football above anything else for now, but the men in charge behind the scenes need to be paying attention to these things to be ready to move quickly if they need to.
