Leeds United tipped to sign Kalvin Phillips as pundit shares what he knows about potential deal
Former Manchester City midfielder Nick Summerbee believes Kalvin Phillips “would be a good signing” for Leeds United.
As per The Sun (25 January), the Hammers are covering the entirety of Phillips’ £140,00 per week Manchester City salary.
Speaking ahead of West Ham’s clash with Tottenham at the London Stadium on Tuesday (2 April), Sumerbee offered his verdict on beIN Sports, saying, “I read today that maybe Leeds United if they go up, that would be a good signing for them.
“They know what he is all about, he hasn’t got to prove anything so maybe that would be a good move for him.
“I hope he turns it around from here until the end of the season, he is more than capable of doing it but it just hasn’t happened, sometimes it goes that way as a footballer.
Leeds United and Daniel Farke could offer Kalvin Phillips a lifeline
While Phillips hasn’t exactly had the best of times since leaving the Whites, that does not mean he isn’t a quality player who can do a job in the Premier League under Daniel Farke.
If Farke is to guide the West Yorkshire club back to England’s top flight, Phillips’ return could be a huge boost and a real statement signing.
He is clearly not settled with West Ham and the midfielder needs an opportunity to establish himself at a club where he is loved, and that club could be Leeds.
Elland Road is a familiar environment where Phillips played the best football of his career, and he could be rejuivinated if he were to return to his former club.
Leeds will need Premier League quality players if they are to be promoted, and Phillips is certainly still a Premier League-quality player, no matter how much he has struggled over the past few years.
In other Leeds United news, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were recently in attendance at Elland Road.
