Ben Godfrey would be an "unbelievable signing" from Everton if Leeds United can get a deal over the line before the transfer deadline, according to Dean Jones.

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (31 January), the former Eurosport journalist said the Whites would be signing the best centre-back in the Championship if they can secure a short-term deal for the 26-year-old.

He added that the fact Daniel Farke has a good relationship with the England international is "helpful" after the pair previously worked together at Norwich City.

“Ben Godfrey would be an unbelievable signing if they could get that done," said Jones. "I think people have forgotten how good Ben Godfrey is.

"On a short-term deal, if that could become possible, you're not only signing somebody that could be pretty much the best centre-back in that league, but you could also have cover on both sides at full-back.

"The fact that Farke has a good relationship with him is also helpful.”

Get it done

There has been an awful lot of frustration expressed amongst the Leeds fans following the lack of transfer activity throughout this month.

It was clear that the club needed at least one more defensive body through the door once Djed Spence was sent back to Tottenham and Luke Ayling was allowed to join Middlesbrough on loan, while Pascal Struijk has been suffering through injury.

But alongside Godfrey, several of the players linked with a move to Elland Road have either gone elsewhere or are still waiting for something to happen.

The centre-back will be desperate to go out and play some more regular football in the second half of the season after his opportunities have been limited at Goodison Park.

Although he's been linked with a switch to the likes of AC Milan this month, Farke's relationship with him has to be worth something as the Whites look to secure a late deal.
