Leeds United terms for Glen Kamara exit mooted as Stade Rennais eye summer transfer

Graham Smyth has told Leeds United to consider selling Glen Kamara for a fee upwards of £10million this summer amid exit speculation.

The Finnish midfielder who joined Daniel Farke’s ranks from Rangers for £5million [YEP, 8 July] has reportedly agreed on personal terms with Stade Rennais despite the Whites being reluctant to sell him [Adam Pope, 5 July].

While no deal appears to be close between the two clubs, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Smyth has mooted that a potential transfer would only be given the go-ahead by Leeds if they receive an eight-figure fee.

Writing for the Yorkshire Evening Post on Monday (8 July) he said: “So long as Rennes are not offering to at least double the money that Leeds spent to bring the ex-Rangers man to Elland Road, then surely the only question for the transfer chiefs is why?

“Why would you?”

Will Leeds United sell Glen Kamara amid summer transfer speculation?

Leeds United have already been dealt a major blow this summer having lost Archie Gray to Tottenham so early in the window and they simply cannot afford to let another midfielder depart unless big money is offered.

Kamara may not be as exciting as the teenager or even Ilia Gruev, but he has played a crucial role in Farke’s first season at Elland Road. If the Whites want to win promotion next term, they will almost certainly rely on him again next season.

That being said, no player is truly off limits when you’re in the Championship and if Stade Rennais were to offer a big-money fee for his signature and that money could be used to sign a replacement, there could be a deal there to be struck.

Whether or not the French side will be willing to pay that sort of fee remains to be seen but it seems pretty clear that they will have to splash the cash if they want to tempt Leeds’ transfer chiefs into selling this summer.
