Leeds United target Noussair Mazraoui expects to leave Ajax
Noussair Mazraoui has admitted he is likely to leave Ajax, saying there is just a “5% chance” he stays, with Leeds United interested, says The Sun.
The Moroccan right-back is out of contract in the summer and is attracting the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Arsenal and Roma.
The international told Dutch media when asked about his future, as quoted by The Sun: “That’s a good question. I think the chances of me remaining at Ajax are very small, maybe 5%.
“I am open for something new, I have played here for 16 years and I think it’s a good moment to leave.”
With the Whites’ pursuit of Brenden Aaronson currently bogged down in negotiations with Red Bull Salzburg who The Mirror’s David Anderson reports to be unmoved, they may be forced to turn their attentions elsewhere.
And it may require a bid before the end of the month if United are to stand a chance of getting the man who was being mooted as competition for Luke Ayling back in October (The Sun).
The Metro credits Manchester City and Brighton with interest in the player who has made 113 appearances for the Dutch champions, while AS in Spain believe Barcelona want to negotiate a swap deal for their American full-back Serginho Dest.
Aside from the injury problems that have dogged Marcelo Bielsa’s squad all season and mean that any reinforcements would probably be of some benefit, pursuing the 24-year-old right-back would plug a gap in the squad.
Fan favourite Ayling is well established at the position, but he is 30 and does not have a proper back up.
The squad features multiple players who are most comfortable at centre-back, and at times it is left to Stuart Dallas to become a utility player and fill in wherever he is needed.
If the Whites want to make good on their interest in the Eredivisie man then it looks like now is the time to do it.
In other Leeds United news, the club are reportedly considering making a third bid for this target.
