Leeds United talks information shared as Alfie Gilchrist makes loan move
Leeds United were interested in signing Chelsea youngster Alfie Gilchrist on loan but any idea of actual talks were exaggerated, according to Yorkshire Evening Post.
The report (7 August) indicates that while Leeds’ interest was genuine, the club had other defensive priorities. Now, the 20-year-old has signed on the dotted line for Sheffield United for the 2024/25 campaign (Sheffield United X account).
It comes almost two months after initial suggestions that Leeds United were in the running (Football London, 15 June).
Leeds United move forward
One of the great things about Daniel Farke is that he sticks to his guns. He knows the targets he wants, and he knows the ones he doesn’t. Plus, for Leeds as a whole, there are strict moral codes in place. From on-loan Premier League youngsters not being guaranteed game time to pursuing players from Europe’s top divisions, things are heating up at Elland Road.

In terms of Gilchrist, they had other targets in mind. One of them was Jayden Bogle, who has officially made his way to West Yorkshire. The 24-year-old was one of the few stand-out stars for Sheffield United last season in their awful Premier League campaign last term.
Ironically, of course, Gilchrist will now be turning out for the Blades in the Championship this year. The expectation is that both clubs will be in the mix when it comes to the race for promotion, and we’ll be interested to see how both players fare when they collide on 18 October.
In other Leeds news, the Whites may look to repeat their Crysnecio Summerville trick with a new transfer this summer.
