Leeds United take financial hit ‘as Kristensen sale done’, final fee shared

Leeds United have formalised the sale of Rasmus Kristensen ahead of the summer transfer window.

With promotion in sight, Leeds’s main focus will be on what happens on the pitch ahead of the final four games of the Championship season.

However, they will still have one eye on summer recruitment at Elland Road, as well as decisions to be made on the future of several first-team players.

A handful of players could be set to leave the Whites with summer, with a deal for Kristensen’s departure already in place.

Kristensen set for permanent Leeds exit

Kristensen has spent the current season on loan at Frankfurt, and according to a report from The New York Times (16 April), that move will be made permanent this summer.

His sale will see Leeds pocket a guaranteed £5.1million, with add-ons to be considered on performance-based criteria after his move.

Leeds signed the Danish international for a reported £10million back in 2022, meaning that his sale will come at a loss, but the Whites are said to be happy to have recouped the majority of the fee that was spent on him initially.

The deal will officially go through in June, when Leeds will undoubtedly be as active as ever in the transfer window.

Leeds have a huge summer ahead

Until promotion is officially confirmed, the majority of their focus will be on achieving that, but with that day seemingly edging closer, attentions will swiftly turn to the work that will be needed in the transfer window.

Leeds will have to recruit smartly this summer if they are to have any chance of avoiding the drop, while also making some fairly hard decisions on those currently involved at Elland Road.

Illan Meslier is one of several players who could be joining Kristensen on their way out of the club this summer, with replacements and improvements needed.

Farke will be well aware of the struggles showcased by the three sides promoted last season, and will need to find a way to avoid his side from repeating that.
