Leeds United tabled offer to sign Barbosa, £2m deal eyed before deadline
Leeds United have been offered the chance to sign Brazilian midfielder Danilo Barbosa, according to the Sunday Mirror.
As reported on page 71 of Sunday’s (26 January) print edition of the newspaper, Leeds are among several clubs who have been offered Barbosa, 28, by Botafogo.
Everton and Sheffield United are also said to have been told the midfielder, whose contract expires in December of this year, is available for £2million before the 3 February transfer deadline.
Barbosa has European experience and is keen to stay put long enough to compete at the Club World Cup for his side before moving onto a new chapter.
The Whites have been linked with numerous additions but have so far not made a signing this month.
Leeds United quiet in winter window
Daniel Farke appeared to set the stall out early that Leeds were not going to be moving madly in the winter window.
The German appears truly content with what he has – especially in midfield, where Josuha Guilavogui was drafted in on a short-term deal as a free agent in October due to injuries sustained by Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev who have since returned.
There remains a positive attitude towards the Championship promotion bid at Elland Road and there have not been high demands from the masses for signings.

But if the chance is presenting itself to sign Barbosa for such a nominal fee, it could certainly be one to contemplate if it adds tidy squad depth and the player himself doesn’t mind competing with this season’s excellent performers in the middle of the park.
The former Valencia and Benfica star joined Botafogo from Nice in 2022, and has been capped by Brazil at several youth levels.
