Leeds United Super Fans slam Helder Costa as he exits for Valencia

This is part of a regular series from our panel of Leeds United Super Fans. Each week, Super Fans from our Leeds Insider Facebook page will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Elland Road

Leeds United fans have slammed Helder Costa after the winger joined Valencia on a loan-to-buy basis late on deadline day.

In an announcement on their official website, the Whites confirmed that Costa, 27, has joined the La Liga club on a season-long loan while there’s an option for that deal to be made permanent next summer.

There’s now a chance we may never see Costa in a Leeds shirt again – but it seems most fans would be happy about that.

During his season on loan at Leeds United from Wolves while in the Championship, the one-time Portugal international was good. He wasn’t anything special and he didn’t stand out against most of his team-mates, but his displays were decent.

However, after winning promotion to the Premier League and his loan stay was made permanent for a whopping £16million [BBC Sport], it became clear why Wolves wanted rid of the winger.

Our panel of Leeds Super Fans were asked about Costa’s move to Valencia and what they thought of the winger.

One fan dubbed him “terrible” while another was shocked at how much he was signed for him.

Costa was out of his depth in the Premier League for both Wolves and Leeds so it’s crazy to think that Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta sanctioned such a big-money move for him.

Wolves will no doubt be licking their lips over the money they got from the ex-Benfica and Deportivo attacker, who now has the opportunity to shine back in Spain.

We wish Costa the best but in all honesty, we’re doing so because we hope that Valencia do trigger that option to buy clause in their loan agreement with Leeds.

Costa should never have been brought for as much as he was and at least the Yorkshire club has a chance to recoup some of that cash now.
