Leeds United submit bid for new transfer as visa red tape emerges

Leeds United have been blocked by visa issues over a move to sign Leiria defensive midfielder Dje D’Avilla in the winter transfer window, according to Record.

The newspaper reports in its print edition (15 January, pg 21) that the Whites have submitted an offer of around £3.3million for the Ivorian youngster.

However, a deal for the 21-year-old will not materialise because D’Avilla does not meet the requirements to receive a work visa in the UK, based on matters such as international appearances.

The midfielder plays in the second tier of Portuguese football and has been a key player for them, signing a new contract until 2027 with an £8.4m release clause.

Considering the amount of money the West Yorkshire club are willing to spend on the Ivorian ace, it seems they are keen on him despite his relatively unknown name.

The Whites had several injury issues in the engine room at the start of the season, but the return of Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev has given Daniel Farke a big boost.

Leeds are undoubtedly the favourites to win promotion to the Premier League, but can’t go into the top flight with a weak squad if they get there.

The German manager had to stretch his options and sign Josuha Guilavogui as a free agent in late October after an injury crisis in the squad.

While Farke will be delighted with having his players back, the Peacocks can’t find themselves in a similar position going forward.

D’Avilla is a fresh face that the West Yorkshire outfit are willing to take a gamble on, but it doesn’t look like a move will materialise for now.
