Leeds United still want Gus Hamer transfer as Coventry hold out for high price
Leeds United are still keen on bringing Coventry midfielder Gustavo Hamer to Elland Road, but the Sky Blues are holding out for a high price, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist wrote on 9 August that Leeds’ interest in Hamer remains strong, although the deal may be difficult due to the high asking price.
A deal for Hamer may open up to Leeds should they be provided with a £20million transfer war chest from Tyler Adams’ proposed move to Chelsea as has been suggested in recent days [The Athletic, 7 August].

This would be a fantastic deal for Leeds
The midfielder is widely recognised as one of the best players in the Championship, with his performances last season helping Coventry to reach the playoff final, where he managed to score, but they eventually lost to Luton.
Hamer’s stats from last season make for incredible viewing, with the midfielder ranking in the 95th percentile or above for total shots, non-penalty xG, assists, expected assists, and shot-creating actions all per 90 minutes [FBref] when compared to other players in his position.
The midfielder’s talents are not limited to attacking the opposition’s box, as he also ranked in the 86th percentile for tackles, completing an average of 2.8 per 90 in the league last season.

While Hamer wouldn’t be a direct replacement for Adams – he plays in a much more advanced role – he would go some way to improving the Leeds midfield in the absence of their current central star.
There has been reported interest from the Premier League in securing Hamer’s signature this summer, so if Leeds can get a deal done, it will be a fantastic coup for the Yorkshire side.
In other Leeds United news, the club are close to finalising a deal for a new centre-back.
