Leeds United star Max Wober missed pre-season game amid links to Borussia Monchengladbach
Leeds United defender Max Wober missed the club’s pre-season friendly against Monaco amid links to Borussia Monchengladbach, according to Adam Pope.
The BBC Leeds journalist tweeted on 22 July that the centre-back’s absence in the 2-0 defeat to the Ligue 1 side was due to him being linked with a potential move to Monchengladbach.
Speaking after the game, Whites boss Daniel Farke also admitted that the 25-year-old wasn’t involved in the loss at York City’s LNER Stadium due to the ongoing transfer speculation surrounding the Austrian.
“Then you’ve mentioned Max Wober, yes it has to do with the transfer situation and also the contract situation,” Farke told LeedsLive about the defender’s absence.
“We will await what the outcome is over the next days, but that’s the reason he wasn’t involved today.”
No surprise
It doesn’t come as too much of a surprise to see Wober not play in the friendly at York as he is another one of the players that have been linked with a move away from Elland Road this summer.
The defender obviously wants to continue playing at the highest possible level and a move to Monchengladbach would see him join a decent Bundesliga side.
There isn’t much point in Farke forcing players that don’t want to be at the club to play in the friendlies if their future looks increasingly unlikely to be in West Yorkshire.

Wober still has four years left on his contract after signing for the Whites for a reported £10million fee in January from Red Bull Salzburg, so they will be hoping to recoup a large chunk of what they paid for him.
Moving the players that want to leave on as quickly as possible will be high on the priority list for Farke at the moment in time as he looks to free up some cash to bring in some new faces ahead of the new campaign.
