Leeds United star Joel Piroe reveals Premier League ‘dream’ amid Elland Road future talk

Joel Piroe has revealed that he dreams of playing in the Premier League and admitted he could also see himself playing in another country in talk of a potential Leeds United exit in the future.

The striker did insist he wanted to reach the Premier League with Leeds but referred to his time in the Championship as a stepping stone to reaching the top of English football to experience the best league in the world.

Piroe went on to say he is fully focused on his dream to reach the Premier League, but would not rule out a move back to the Netherlands or another country if the opportunity arose.

The Dutchman was speaking to the Dutch edition of ESPN [27 December] as he admitted: “In the long term I want to earn a step higher again.

“I have adapted well to a higher level throughout my career so far, so I am confident that I can continue to do so. I see my seasons in the Championship as training years for the Premier League and now I want to experience first-hand why everyone calls this the best league in the world.

“I dream of the Premier League, but I could certainly play in another country. The Eredivisie is certainly an option, but at that moment I am fully focused on the Premier League.”

Not exactly reassuring words

While the claim that reaching the Premier League with Leeds is his goal as things stand, and ambition is never a bad thing for players, especially when they match that of the club, hearing Piroe speak openly about a potential future away from Leeds won’t be nice to hear.

The Yorkshire side currently sits in fourth place in the Championship, behind high-flying Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton, with promotion by no means a formality, and the likelihood of facing the dreaded playoffs very much on the cards.

Leeds United

With Piroe’s latest comments, there will be fears that if Leeds cannot reach the promised land of Premier League football, and he receives an offer from elsewhere, the Dutchman could depart Elland Road so shortly after arriving in the summer.

We will have to wait and see how the season plays out for Leeds, but the comments are far from reassuring if the club does not reach its goals, and concerns will begin to build if their promotion bid begins to fade.

In other Leeds United news, four players have been ruled out for the next game.
