Leeds United stance shared on Junior Firpo contract after injury blow
Joe Donnohue believes Leeds United are wary of offering Junior Firpo a new contract after his latest injury setback.
Donnohue reported via the Yorkshire Evening Post [12 December] that the Whites believe offering the full-back a contract extension would not represent value given his torrid injury record in West Yorkshire.
The 28-year-old will be sidelined for the next “four to six weeks” after sustaining a foot injury in the 2-0 win against Derby County [7 December], sparking fresh concerns surrounding his long-term future at Elland Road.
Firpo is into the final months of his contract, and his latest injury setback could spell the end of his time at Leeds.
Leeds United could move on from Junior Firpo
The Dominican Republic international has endured torrid luck this season, with no end in sight to his woes.
He had not long returned from a three-match FA ban for headbutting Danny McNamara after the final whistle of the 1-0 loss against Millwall before sustaining another long-term injury on his 100th appearance for the Whites.
Furthermore, Wober doubled the advantage for Leeds after replacing Firpo against Derby, and Sam Byram also thrived when deputising for the full-back.
Daniel Farke has been unable to rely on his first choice left-back throughout the 2024/25 campaign, whether fitness or disciplinary-related, and the German could be ready to end the relationship.

Leeds cannot afford to carry any passengers in the quest to secure a long-awaited Premier League return this season and definitely cannot bring unreliable players to the top flight.
The Whites are already pressing forward with a succession plan, with FC Nordsjaelland defender Daniel Svensson touted to make the switch to Elland Road.
Firpo will be free to negotiate a Bosman transfer with sides outside of England in the January transfer window, and it may be in his best interest to seek out interested parties.
In other Leeds United news, Angus Kinnear has been left red-faced at the Whites as a transfer decision backfires.
