Leeds United stance on summer Illan Meslier exit shared as ‘big bid’ mooted at Elland Road
Leeds United would “have to consider” a big bid for Illan Meslier if it arrived at Elland Road during the summer transfer window, according to Graham Smyth.
The French youth international has had a mixed season under Daniel Farke, pulling off some excellent stops including the one to deny Josh Sargent in the playoffs, but also being guilty of making some big errors.
While there has been little speculation around the 24-year-old’s future, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Smyth thinks the Whites could cash in but isn’t sure who would be willing to pay the fee Leeds would be looking for.
Writing for the Yorkshire Evening Post (29 May) he said: “A player on whom opinion can be so divided. Had a more solid season in the Championship, with better protection.
“Distribution was an issue and build-up sometimes suffered. If someone came in with a big bid, which would mean profit, Leeds would have to consider it. But will anyone?
“Not sure I can see it this summer. If he remains he’ll need a stiffer challenge than Darlow has provided.”
Will Illan Meslier leave Leeds United and Elland Road in the summer transfer window?
Having missed out on promotion back to the top-flight this season, Leeds United will have to cut their cloth accordingly in the summer transfer window and that could mean that some big-name stars do depart.
At this moment in time, it seems more likely that one of Archie Gray or Crysencio Summerville could be sold to balance the books financially, but someone like Meslier could also move away if the right offers arrive.

When he is at his best, the Frenchman can be one of the best keepers in the Championship and his display against the Canaries at Elland Road showed that. But too often, he loses concentration and makes a big error that can cost his team.
If a big money offer arrived for his services, Leeds would be stupid to not accept it. However, as Smyth suggests, it seems incredibly unlikely that anyone will be willing to foot the bill to secure his services.
