Leeds United stance made clear as 49ers Enterprises hold meeting with Daniel Farke
Leeds United owners 49ers Enterprises have already held a meeting with Daniel Farke to discuss the summer’s transfer plans at Elland Road, according to Ben Jacobs.
The Give Me Sport journalist explained that the owners made their stance clear that promotion to the Premier League would allow the boss to keep the majority of his squad together.
This comes amid a new verdict on the future of Willy Gnonto as Jacobs claims if Leeds can earn promotion this season, they will be in a strong position to turn down any offers.
Speaking to Give Me Sport [27 April], Jacobs reported: “If Leeds go up, the aim will be to keep the core of their squad together. The Leeds ownership have already had one meeting with Daniel Farke as part of their pre-summer planning.
“In that meeting, they have made it clear that promotion to the Premier League will afford him the ability to keep the spine of his squad together.
“Leeds are fighting to return to the Premier League and the added bonus of that is, if they do so, they will be in a position to rebuff offers.
“If someone comes calling for Wilfried Gnonto and Leeds are in the Premier League, and they don’t want to sell him, I would expect him to have learned from that original Everton saga and to handle it a lot differently.”
Leeds United promotion bid takes huge blow v Queens Park Rangers
The main issue with the targets set for Farke by the 49ers is that they rely on promotion to the Premier League and a defeat against Queens Park Rangers all but ended Leeds’ hope of securing automatic promotion this season.
A 4-0 defeat at Loftus Road meant Leicester were promoted and a 3-3 draw between Ipswich and Hull meant they drew level on points with a game in hand over their rivals, meaning a win in that game in hand means they would have to match Leeds’ result on the final day.
While promotion remains a possibility if Ipswich drop points, it has been taken out of Leeds’ hand, throwing a spanner in the works of the club’s transfer plans for the summer as they may now need to reevaluate their options.

A meeting with Farke will have put preliminary options in place, but their league status will likely be the biggest issue when it comes to recruitment in terms of who they can buy, who they can keep and who they will have to sell.
In other Leeds United news, the club want to sign a Liverpool defender this summer.
