Leeds United sources share new Gus Hamer transfer latest ahead of Monday deadline
Gustavo Hamer has been a long-term target for Leeds United.
By this point, supporters are used to, or perhaps even bored with, Leeds being linked with a potential move for Hamer.
By 7 pm on Monday, the resolution of the latest instalment of Hamer’s saga with Leeds will be finalised as Daniel Farke and the 49ers will have their answer regarding the Sheffield United playmaker.
With Leeds also rumoured to be interested in Eduard Spertsyan, it’s clear that bringing an attacking midfielder to Elland Road is certainly on the agenda.

Leeds United distance themselves from Gus Hamer
Leeds’ 0-0 draw with Newcastle over the weekend was further evidence that there is a spark that is missing from the Whites’ attack.
- Leeds are the second-lowest scorers in the Premier League so far after three games
- Only Aston Villa (0) have scored fewer than United’s one league goal
- Hamer’s creativity would have certainly helped this, but a move no longer appears to be on the cards
According to reports from the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth on 1 September, club sources have insisted that Hamer has never been a firm target for the Whites this summer.
Considering how heavy the links were just a few days ago, this is a surprising revelation from Smyth and will be news that will baffle the fanbase even further.

Extremely poor from the 49ers to not consider Gus Hamer
If Smyth’s reports are factual, the fact that a player of Hamer’s quality has never really been considered is an absolutely ridiculous decision from the 49ers.
Hamer’s set-piece taking abilities, as well as playmaking, are two attributes that are severely lacking at Leeds, and given how deals for the likes of Facundo Buonanotte have fallen through, they would’ve likely been in pole position to land Hamer’s signature.
- Hamer is also a Premier League-proven player, recording 10 goal contributions in an awful Sheffield United side in the 2023/24 season
- The Dutchman scored four goals whilst recording six assists in what turned out to be a solid individual campaign for Hamer
- With Sheffield United losing their opening four Championship matches, you would assume Hamer would’ve welcomed the Leeds move with open arms
With Hamer seemingly not arriving in West Yorkshire today, Leeds must sign a player of the calibre of an Emi Buendia or a Bilal El Khannouss if they want to keep the fanbase on side.
