Leeds United: Sky Sports host moots Joe Gelhardt exit from Elland Road in January amid speculation

David Prutton has suggested Joe Gelhardt could leave Leeds United in favour of a move to Hull City after recent speculation suggested he could be on the way out in January.

The Sky Sports EFL host was critical of the forward, claiming he doesn’t score enough given his talent, but would fit in well at Hull if he is given a settled run in the starting lineup.

The Sun journalist Alan Nixon reported via his Patreon on 10 December that the Tigers feel Gelhardt could help in their push for the playoffs as he may be available on loan.

Speaking to the 1904 Club podcast, Prutton shared: “He is another player that needs games. He doesn’t score enough goals for the ability that he has got.

“He has not had a settled run in the team or a settled position for god knows how long. I think he would fit nicely at City.”

The best solution for all parties

Another loan move for Gelhardt after his spell at Sunderland last season could be a good move for all parties involved. Leeds can allow him to go and play regular football, which he and Hull would also benefit from as the Tigers look to solidify their playoff push.

However, with Leeds looking likely to be in and around the playoffs themselves, they would likely be unsure about strengthening a direct rival in the transfer market by lending them a new forward who Daniel Farke rates highly.

The report by Nixon suggested Liam Rosenior is prepared to give Gelhardt assurances over his playing time despite a stacked forward line which has seen them push to seventh in the league, just two points away from the playoff places after a win against Middlesbrough.

With several Championship teams also keen on bringing the forward in when January arrives, Leeds will be braced for offers and it looks likely they will entertain the possibility of letting him go.
