Leeds United should finally get answer in pursuit of Charles De Ketelaere in next 24 hours

The final resolution in the weeks-long Leeds United pursuit of Charles De Ketelaere appears to be imminent after AC Milan raised their offer.

After a stalemate which saw the 21-year-old Belgian make his desire to move to the Italian champions obvious early, he looks to be finally about to get his wish.

The Whites had a superior offer of €37million on the table to his current side, Club Brugge, for some time but the player wanted to go to San Siro all along.

While the Belgian champions were asking for €35million, the Rossoneri were previously unwilling to go above €32million including bonuses [La Gazetta dello Sport].

But according to La Gazetta journalist Luca Bianchin that has now changed, and they have finally increased their offer to meet the asking price.

Writing on his Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon (27 July) he said: “Milan raised the offer for Charles De Ketelaere and the Belgian is now one step away. Big news possible between this evening and tomorrow.

“The transfer fee should be around €35m, bonus included.”

This should at long last draw to a close this elongated chapter to United’s transfer window, with the exciting talent an understandable target but apparently out of reach throughout.

Victor Orta has been after a new forward for Jesse Marsch during the window and the young Belgian international was the primary option.

The club stuck with the pursuit longer than it looked like there was any real purpose to it, and that appears to now have been proven the case.

They have since made a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Arnaud Kalimuendo, who looked to be far more accessible.

That may still end up securing the Frenchman but that has since become bogged down itself, while the days count down to the start of the new season.

Whoever the club end up landing now will not have the benefit of a preseason with the squad, so with the De Ketelaere chase imminently expected to end in failure the question has to be asked as to why so much time was spent focused on him, but fans can at least get an answer and move on.

In other Leeds United news, one Whites talent has made the latest in a recent series of brave decisions that comes as a surprise but could be a big boost to the club this season.
