Leeds United settlement on the cards for Kiko Casilla to exit Elland Road

Leeds United are likely to agree a deal to terminate Kiko Casilla’s contract early this summer, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper reported on 7 June that Leeds are set to agree a settlement with the 35-year-old goalkeeper, who spent the 2021/22 season on loan at La Liga club Elche.

It is understood that the Whites will seek to pay Casilla’s contract out if a new club cannot be found for the disgraced goalkeeper, who was banned for racism in 2020 during the club’s Championship title-winning campaign.

The YEP adds that Leeds discussed signing an experienced goalkeeper in January when Marcelo Bielsa was in charge to add to the squad. The Whites could revive those discussions this summer for someone to provide backup for Illan Meslier.

Good riddance

It’s been a long time coming but Kiko, make sure the door doesn’t hit you on the way out.

Casilla has been an absolute joke of a player for Leeds United and hasn’t been worth anywhere near the £40,000-a-week wages he gets paid at the club [Football Insider].

Not only has he been woeful on the pitch for Leeds and failed to cement a spot in the starting line-up at Elche, but he’s also a player who’s been banned for racially abusing Jonathan Leko in September 2019.

At the time of the incident, Leko was a young player on loan at Charlton from West Brom.

He alleged that he was racially abused by Casilla and an FA panel ended up banning the Spaniard for a long time as a result.

Marcelo Bielsa’s management of Casilla was the worst thing about his reign as manager, especially as he ended up giving the Spaniard another chance and – sickeningly – giving him the captain’s armband for a Carabao Cup game.

Casilla’s a horrible goalkeeper and an even worse human being.

It’s such a shame that Victor Orta agreed to give him such a long contract because it’s led to a point where he’s being paid to leave the club.

But we just want him gone.

His name is a stain on Leeds United’s history.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are ready to hijack an £8.5million transfer to sign a new forward from South America.
