Leeds United set to submit second offer to sign Gustavo Hamer, Sheffield United are rattled

Leeds United are set to submit a second offer for Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer, who is prepared to join, according to GiveMeSport.

The online source reported [28 August] that Leeds want competition for the likes of Brenden Aaronson, but are not willing to offer over £15million plus add-ons after having a £13million bid rejected [The Star].

It is understood that the Whites’ attempt to sign the 27-year-old midfielder has rattled the Blades, who do not want one of their most important players to leave Bramall Lane just before the transfer deadline.

Leeds United to strike a last-gasp deal to sign Gustavo Hamer?

Hamer has been a key figure for the Blades since joining from Coventry City last summer, having been crowned the Sky Blues’ Player of the Year for 2021/22 and 2022/23, so it is understandable to see their reaction to the interest in him.

Despite a tough season in the Premier League last term for Sheffield United, he still managed to notch four goals and six assists in 36 matches, proving his ability at the top level.

The only problem with signing Hamer for Daniel Farke would be trying to fit him into the starting XI at Elland Road, with Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev, Joe Rothwell and Aaronson available.

While Ampadu and Gruev have formed a brilliant partnership in the middle of the park, there would be absolutely no harm in adding the 27-year-old to the mix.

Of course, if Leeds are to spend £15million on the player, fans will be expecting him to have a key role in the Whites’ promotion charge, especially with Georginio Rutter moving to Brighton for £40million [BBC Sport].

Hamer is now one of the most exciting players in the Championship, having dropped down from the Premier League with the Blades last season, and Leeds will need to act quickly if they are to secure his signature.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have submitted a bid to sign Ao Tanaka, which is likely to be accepted.
