Leeds United set to sign Manchester City left-back

Leeds United are keen on a new left-back this summer as Junior Firpo left after the expiry of his contract.

The Dominican Republic international is yet to find a new club, with it being a week since he parted ways with Leeds.

He moved to Elland Road in 2021 from Barcelona and was part of the side that got relegated to the Championship as well as the one that clinched promotion to the Premier League.

The 17-year-old left-back moved to Manchester City last summer and has been a part of their youth side.

Before moving to Manchester, he was at Everton, but did not make any senior appearances there either.

The expectation is that if he does end up moving to Thorp Arch, he will be part of the Under-21s.

He has already represented Wales at the Under-18s level.

Leeds United need to prioritise on signing a new striker

Joel Piroe excelled in the Championship, as he won the Golden Boot, showcasing his finishing ability and work rate.

However, his limited physicality and lack of consistent top-flight experience raise doubts about his capacity to lead the line regularly in the Premier League’s demanding environment.

Similarly, Lukas Nmecha, despite his versatility and pace, is expected to be a backup at Elland Road.

Leeds United, aiming to compete in the Premier League post-promotion, must prioritise signing a proven number nine.

A striker with physical presence, aerial ability and a track record in top-tier leagues would provide the focal point needed to complement Leeds’ high-pressing style and ensure attacking potency against elite defences.
