Leeds United set to meet with RB Leipzig’s Yussuf Poulsen to discuss move to Elland Road

RB Leipzig are waiting for striker Yussuf Poulsen to meet Leeds United to discuss a potential transfer to Elland Road this summer, according to a report by Yenicag.

The Turkish outlet report that the Danish forward may be keen on a move to England and the only current offer presented to him is from the Whites.

Poulsen has seen his involvement dwindle in the Bundesliga in recent seasons, with the return of Timo Werner to Leipzig last year limiting him to only three starts in the league last year, where he managed to find the net twice. But Leeds still want to bring him to England.

The Mail had previously explained that the Whites were keen to sign the Danish international and while they expect competition, there is a belief that the player may be happy to remain in Germany for the final year of his contract.

Another striker who isn’t prolific

Across his last two campaigns, Poulsen has only been able to score 11 goals in all competitions and while he has had to contend with selection and injury issues, that isn’t exactly the sort of record in front of goal that will particularly excite Leeds United fans.

Their main source of goals from last season, Spanish forward Rodrigo, has already departed Elland Road leaving them with only a few recognised strikers including Patrick Bamford. Georginio Rutter and Joe Gelhardt.

Bamford was prolific when he was last in the Championship, and in his first Premier League season, but struggled for both fitness and form last season and despite Poulsen being much more established on the international and European football scene, there are clear similarities between the two’s recent form.

Rutter similarly struggled to find the net consistently last term, scoring twice for Hoffenheim in the first half of the campaign, but failed to find the net at all after joining the ranks at Elland Road in January.

Leeds need guaranteed goals and although the Championship is a clear step down from the top half of the Bundesliga, they may be better of spending their money elsewhere to guarantee success.
