Leeds United set to earn £800k transfer windfall as Max Dean closes in on MK Dons exit

Leeds United are set to earn a summer windfall of around £800,000 as Max Dean closes in a move to KAA Genk, according to Graham Smyth.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported on Friday (12 July) that the Belgian club have won the race for the former Whites striker’s signature having submitted a bid worth £1.6million for his services.

Leeds are believed to have inserted a 50 per cent sell-on clause in Dean’s original move back in January 2023 and will therefore be in line for a payday, despite the fact the forward never broke into the first team at Elland Road.

Will Leeds United earn any money from Max Dean’s summer transfer to Gent?

While some Leeds United supporters have been disappointed by the lack of major transfer business at Elland Road this summer, the Whites do deserve credit for putting clever clauses like this into their sales over the last few years.

Dean never even managed to have a genuine impact in a Leeds shirt and departed the club on an initial free transfer, but somehow the Whites have managed to earn a significant seven-figure fee for his signature 18 months later.

That may not be a massive amount of money for a club at the top end of the Championship, but these funds can be added to Daniel Farke’s pot for the remainder of the summer as he looks to build a squad ready to win promotion.

Leeds haven’t exactly splashed the cash in the early stages of the window, barring the arrival of Joe Rodon, but they will likely look to step up their plans in the coming weeks as the Euros and Copa America come to an end.

Who knows, that extra £800,000 pound or so could be the difference between matching a player’s wage demands, or missing out on a transfer target in the next couple of weeks or so.
