Leeds United set for new cash injection after lucrative Max Dean transfer update

Leeds United could be set to receive a cash injection if Max Dean is sold by MK Dons this summer, thanks to a sell-on clause, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The Whites sold Dean to MK Dons in January 2023, with the young striker never making a first-team appearance and included a 50 per cent clause in the deal.

The 20-year-old reached the League Two playoffs with his new side – but failure to get promoted could see “lucrative” bids arrive after the Dons lost the first leg of their semi-final 3-0.

What are the chances of former Leeds United striker Max Dean being sold?

Dean has enjoyed a stellar season in League Two for his new employers.

The young striker was afforded few first-team opportunities after joining in the winter of 2023, with the club battling – ultimately unsuccessfully – against relegation from the third tier.

However, Dean has been a revelation in the fourth tier in 2023/24, netting 15 league goals in just 1,919 minutes across 29 appearances – a superb record.

Furthermore, MK Dons now look unlikely to return to League One at the first time of asking following their first-leg defeat against Crawley Town in their playoff semi-final.

Should Mike Williamson’s side remain in League Two for another year, Dean is more likely to jump at the chance to move to a side higher up the football pyramid – while interested parties are more likely to make a move, given MK Dons’ weakened negotiating position.

If these circumstances come to pass, Leeds will hope MK Dons get the best price possible for Dean to grant the Whites a welcome financial windfall.
