Leeds United set for improved transfer fee after brilliant Joe Gelhardt news

Leeds United will get even more money for Joe Gelhardt if he continues to perform at Hull City, Don Goodman says.

The 23-year-old joined the Whites in 2020 from Wigan Athletic, and there were high expectations of him in LS11.

Daniel Farke relied on Joel Piroe as his first-choice striker last season, leading to the Englishman’s departure on loan to the Tigers in January.

Gelhardt rejoined Hull in the summer and has gone on to thrive in the Championship, which will certainly be good news for the West Yorkshire outfit.

After featuring just twice for Leeds in the league in the previous campaign, it looks like Gelhardt has finally found his home at Hull.

The centre-forward has made 15 appearances in the Championship this season, scoring seven goals and providing two assists.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Elland Road hierarchy opt to cash in on the Englishman next summer after what he’s been able to achieve at the MKM Stadium.

Speaking to Football League World on 22 November, Goodman said: “It’s brilliant news for Gelhardt and Hull. I’ve just read an interview where Joe has gone on record saying how happy he is at Hull.”

The former striker added: “And, if you’re Leeds, the better he does at Hull, the more money you’re going to get for him. It’s a win-win all-round, I would say.”

At the West Yorkshire outfit, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been Farke’s go-to number nine, but things aren’t going as smoothly as fans would’ve expected.

Daniel Farke to make surprise Joe Gelhardt decision

Farke may opt to recall Gelhardt from his loan at Hull, with the Whites the joint-second lowest goalscorers in the Premier League this season.

Calvert-Lewin, Lukas Nmecha and Piroe have failed to be reliable outlets up front for the German manager in the English top flight.

The Dutchman has fallen down the pecking order, and he may want to leave in January, opening up the door for Gelhardt’s return.

It’s clear that the West Yorkshire outfit need to change things up if they want to survive, and reinforcements in the winter transfer window should be a priority.
