Leeds United sensation immediate exit on cards as manager confirms signing plans

Adam Hinshelwood has confirmed that York City are hoping to sign Luca Thomas on loan from Leeds United imminently.

The National League club’s boss has been watching the 20-year-old forward recently after the Whites allowed him to train with the Minstermen, and they want him in before their weekend game against Ebbsfleet United.

According to The Press in York on 16 October a long-term injury to their captain Lenell John-Lewis has left York City short, and increased the urgency to land a replacement from Leeds.

Hinshelwood said, via The Press: “Leeds have let him train with us for the last few days, so we can cast an eye over him, and we have done that.

“We’ve been impressed with what we have seen, so it’s down to us to have a chat with Tony [McMahon, Director of Football] and then speak to Leeds and see what is best.

“We’ve been really encouraged by what we have seen from him and we’re hoping that we will be able to do something there.

“We’re hoping, he’s been in for a few days and have liked what we have seen so far, so we will sit down with Tony tomorrow and speak to Leeds to see what we can try and arrange.”

Luca Thomas set for Leeds United exit to York City

It would make little sense for Leeds United to permit Thomas to go and train with York City and then pull back from agreeing the loan move they want.

If there is game time on offer immediately, and as he isn’t being dropped in cold since he has already been with Hinshelwood’s squad, then it looks to be in all parties’ best interest to get a deal signed a soon as possible.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post on 18 September the Whites forward signed a season-long contract extension with the club during the summer, before being involved in Daniel Farke’s preseason training with the first team.

But if the plan at Thorp Arch is to get him some senior experience as a priority before moving him up the pyramid for further development there is no time to lose.

He looks to have outgrown Premier League 2 football if he is scoring in every game so if there is going to be a future for him at Elland Road he needs to make the next steps.

There is clearly a huge gap between the National League and the Premier League, where Farke hopes to have Leeds next term, so there is plenty to get through for Thomas if he is going to make it here.

In other Leeds United news, Jurgen Klopp could be set to appear at Thorp Arch and provide a major signal on Red Bull’s long-term intent for the Whites.
