Leeds United ‘sacrifice’ mooted amid transfer news at Elland Road
Josuha Guilavogui could be used as a “sacrifice” at Leeds United after the recent transfer links that have emerged, Graeme Bailey has said.
The midfielder was brought in as emergency cover when both Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu were sidelined for extended periods.
The journalist reported via LeedsUnited.news (21 January), that after Paris FC were linked with the veteran Frenchman, he doesn’t believe the Whites would “stand in his way” to exit.
“I suspect they might be investigating the Red Bull link. I know Guilavogui was linked with Red Bull, I wonder if there is a one in, one out there and get a defender back,” he said.
“Bringing in a centre-back from the Red Bull system wouldn’t surprise me. There was something in it [Guilavogui to Paris FC].
“I think the conversation has been had, Paris have been on the phone to Jurgen Klopp – maybe not as high as Klopp – but I imagine they’ve spoken to him and said, if he’s not playing at Leeds, do you think we could manoeuvre him via the Red Bull system to us. It’s clear that a conversation has happened.
“I don’t think Leeds would stand in his way. You have Gruev and Ampadu back. He did a job covering you, but there is a plethora of options there. Sacrifice him for a centre-back? Wouldn’t rule it out.”
The days of Josuha Guilalvogui at Leeds United are numbered
While it was evident that Guillavogui wouldn’t be a long-term option at Elland Road, it’s unlikely that fans thought they could be waving goodbye to the former France international as soon as the winter transfer window.
While Daniel Farke hasn’t had to rely upon the 34-year-old all that much due to the impressive form of Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell, it’s evident that the impact he’s had off the pitch has had a massive effect on the youngsters at the club.

However, even though earlier in his career he would have been an industrious addition to any side, in his recent game against Harrogate in the third round of the FA Cup, it was clear that he was way off where he needed to be.
Which is why it doesn’t come as all that much of a surprise to see him already being linked with a move away and, if Leeds could get a centre-back out of it, that would be a more than ideal situation for them to find themselves in.
