West Ham have made an offer to Leeds United to sign Crysencio Summerville during the transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reported via X on 22 July that the Hammers have come forward and also spoken to the winger and his camp.

A deal is not thought to be close because it is seen a "very expensive" to sign the Dutchman this summer, while Roma are also interested in a move if they are unable to land Matias Soulé.

Summerville is in high demand after a standout campaign under Daniel Farke, with Rennes also expected to enter into intense negotiations over adding him to Glen Kamara in Ligue 1 [L'Equipe, 16 July].

Leeds United star also wanted by Brighton amid Chelsea and Liverpool interest

Daniel Farke's side was always going to see some notable departures this summer after the failure to gain promotion and Summerville, 22, looked likely to be top of the list.

After 21 goals in all competitions last season he has drawn transfer interest from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool [Sun, 28 May] while Brighton also made an offer earlier in the summer [Romano, 17 June].

Were the wide man a blockbuster departure at the start of the window that helped guard the Whites against further key men leaving it would have been one thing.

But with Archie Gray now at Tottenham, Kamara in France, and Everton circling to land Willy Gnonto after a year of trying [Sky Sports, 15 July] it is another prospect altogether.

Joe Rodon and Jayden Bogle arriving is a positive and the loan move for Joe Rothwell helps in terms of depth.

But the attack hasn't seen any reinforcements yet and the new Championship season is just around the corner.

Summerville may end up being clung onto in the same way Gnonto was a year ago if the right bid isn't put on the table, but there is clearly a risk of a late exit that leaves little time to sign an adequate replacement.
