Leeds United ready yet another defender transfer as Chibuike Mwaiwu set for more headlines

Leeds United are monitoring Wolfsberger central defender Chibuike Nwaiwu for this winter.

Daniel Farke is under pressure at Leeds after several uninspiring Premier League results.

Their latest was Leeds’ 3-2 defeat to Manchester City, where they conceded a last-minute Phil Foden dagger despite staging a comeback moments before.

As a result, Leeds will look to arm Farke with reinforcements this winter, or whoever takes over from the 49-year-old, who could be out before Christmas.

Leeds United could strike for the highly-regarded young defender

Leeds are interested in highly sought-after central defender Nwaiwu, according to Topmercato on 1 December.

The Nigerian, whose contract runs out on 30 June 2027, is considered one of the best in his position in the Austrian Bundesliga.

The right-footed defender lifted the Austrian Cup last season after an impressive campaign.

Indeed, the rising star who is “ready to ignite” the transfer window and make more headlines has stolen their attention for Leeds, who are monitoring his situation. However, the Whites will not be alone in their pursuit of Nwaiwu.

The versatile defender has caused a storm in Ligue 1 with several French sides, including recent UEFA Champions League winners, Lens and l’Olympique de Marseille are all interested in the young sensation.

As a result, if Leeds did decide to pounce for Nwaiwu, they’d have to make their interest known right off the bat.

What could Chibuike Nwaiwu offer Leeds United?

The 22-year-old centre-back is renowned for his excellent ball-playing ability and cool head when in pressurised situations.

Furthermore, he is a physical defender, unafraid to enter into duels and make last-ditch tackles to keep his team in the game.

This could help his transition into the Premier League, which is considered one of the most physical leagues in the world.

In addition to this, his ball-playing ability means that Nwaiwu can be coached to play as a defensive midfielder, and such versatility could come in handy for Farke’s side.

With Farke’s future at Leeds on the line, the defender’s signing could help transform the way his side defends if signed and if the German coach makes it till after Christmas.
