Leeds United turn to Fofana as Meslier replacement in £8.4m transfer bombshell

Leeds United will be looking to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer.

Daniel Farke‘s side are yet to start their summer business, though with the window having only been open for five days, that may come as little surprise.

Several players have been linked with a move to Elland Road, though as it stands, nothing appears imminent on a recruitment front.

With that said, it is evident that the Whites are targeting a new goalkeeper this summer, with the latest exit news from France opening up a new door of opportunity.

Yahia Fofana could become Leeds’ new number one

With Illan Meslier looking as though he has no future at Elland Road, it is clear that one of the priorities will be to sign his replacement this summer.

Nick Pope has been linked with Leeds, as was Caoimhin Kelleher before his move to Brentford, though the Whites have now set their sights on someone new.

Via Africafoot (4 June), Farke’s side have identified Angers keeper Yahia Fofana as a target ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Angers’ management are said to have set a £8.4million price tag on the Ivorian, who had a solid campaign in France last season.

Fofana is said to be on the “departure list” at Angers, with an exit this summer looking almost inevitable.

Farke needs a new goalkeeper this summer

Meslier very early cost Leeds promotion, and with Farke axing him from the XI towards the end of last season, it is highly unlikely that he will be drafted back in next season.

Surviving in the Premier League is a tough task at the best of times, and to have any chance of achieving that, you need confidence in the man in goal, and with Meslier, Leeds don’t.

With a healthy budget available at Elland Road, Leeds have money to spend, and it will be crucial that they spend that well if they are to thrive in the top flight under Farke.
