Leeds United ready to sell Brenden Aaronson, goodbyes said amid £11.9m development

Leeds United are prepared to offload Brenden Aaronson this summer but may have to take a loss on the USa international, according to the Berliner Kurier.

Aaronson was signed by Leeds from Red Bull Salzburg for a fee of around £24.7m, but is now said to be likely to recoup the club just half of that sum should they sell this summer with him now being valued at just £11.9million.

The American scored twice and claimed two assists in 30 Bundesliga games this season whilst on loan at Union Berlin, securing survival with a 15th-place finish.

The report by Sebastian Schmitt [24 May] noted: “Aaronson and Union were a good fit in the end.

“Union had no option to buy and said goodbye to [Aaronson], but he has barely left and is available again.

“Word is that Leeds United want to sell the player – regardless of whether they win the play-off final. In addition, the English club are apparently prepared to let Aaronson go for significantly less money than they once paid for him.”

Aaronson’s future lies away from Leeds United

Whilst it’s clear that Marcelo Bielsa’s man Aaronson does not make up any part of Daniel Farke’s plans at Leeds United, his stock is high enough for plenty of interest.

With 40 caps for the USMNT and 36 Premier League appearances last season, the attacking midfielder could present a bargain to any club willing to take a chance at the estimated fee.

Aaronson could also provide sell-on value to any takers at the age of just 23, which Leeds will no doubt look to capitalise on when they negotiate a potential sale during the off-season.

Leeds United loanee Brenden Aaronson
Brenden Aaronson managed just one goal from 36 Premier League appearances in his first season at Leeds United.

The player and his loved ones claimed to be happily settled in the German capital during his recent loan, and he is open to a permanent deal with Union after the club secured Bundesliga football for 2024-25.

With Leeds seemingly content to part with Aaronson for a loss of almost £13m, the green light looks to be flashing on the deal to go ahead so all parties can move on.
