Leeds United are ready to pay up to £4.2million to sign FC Zurich attacker Wilfried Gnonto, according to Sky Sports News journalist Kaveh Solhekol.

Gnonto, 18, has been capped four times by Italy despite his tender age and he’s now attracting attention from Elland Road.

Solhekol has relayed what Sky Sports Italy are saying about Leeds and the young forward, adding that the Yorkshire club will pay no more than £4.2million for him.

“Sky Italy still reporting Leeds’ interest in FC Zurich and Italy forward Wilfried Gnonto. They’re ready to pay up to €5million (£4.2millon),” said Solhekol, as shown in a video clip on Sky Sports’ website on Wednesday (17 August).

Gnonto’s rise is quite incredible.

Roberto Mancini handed him his Italy debut on 4 June in their Nations League draw against Germany.

Ten days later, he scored against Germany to become the youngest goalscorer in Italy’s national team history. Unfortunately, the day was marred by the fact Italy lost 5-2 to the Germans.

Gnonto is a versatile attacker who can play on either wing or as a centre-forward.

He’s played eight times for Zurich so far this season, scoring one goal for the Swiss club, which came in a Europa League qualifying win over Linfield on 4 August.

Zurich’s league form has been woeful though with them drawing two and losing three of their first five Super League games and Gnonto hasn’t directly contributed to any goals and hasn’t completed 90 minutes.

But he’s young and he’s got a lot to learn so to sign a goalscoring Italy forward for £4.2million would be some deal for the Whites, especially when he could be worth a lot more than that in the future.
