Leeds United ready to pay £30.9m to sign Nahitan Nandez
The Sardinian newspaper claims Inter Milan also want to sign the 25-year-old Uruguay international but Marcelo Bielsa has insisted to Leeds that he’s keen to see the player head to Elland Road this summer.
La Nuova adds that Leeds are “ready to pay the release clause” for Nandez, which is valued at £30.9million
Could Leeds smash their transfer record for a second summer in a row?
Last year, the Whites signed Rodrigo for around £26million, breaking a transfer record that had stood since 2000 when Rio Ferdinand was signed from West Ham for £18million [BBC Sport].
However, it seems Leeds are ready to surpass what they spent on Rodrigo by snapping up Nandez, who has been an ever-present for Cagliari this season.
In the 2020/21 campaign, Nandez made 32 Serie A appearances, scoring two goals and supplying three assists in the process.
He’s primarily a central midfielder but the former Boca Juniors ace can also play on either wing.
The 37-times Uruguay international is currently representing his nation at Copa America and played 45 minutes of the 1-0 defeat to Argentina on Saturday when he came off the bench at half-time to play on the right-wing.
Bielsa loves a player who’s versatile and he no doubt would have watched his nation take on Nandez’s Uruguay this weekend.
If Bielsa wants Nandez that badly then Leeds should try to sign him but it looks as though there’d be a big chunk taken out of the transfer budget if that happens.
In other Leeds United news, this “magic” midfielder could be a masterstroke of a signing as he’s tipped to be the next big thing.
