Leeds United ready three new transfers at Elland Road this summer

Leeds United will be targeting three specific positions in the transfer market this summer, according to Ben Jacobs.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the journalist said that the Whites will be most keenly looking for players who operate out wide, as well as a striker and a right-back after the departure of Archie Gray to Tottenham.

Jacobs added that reinforcements on the flanks will certainly be needed if Crysencio Summerville is sold in the coming weeks, with Gray’s exit leaving gaps in central midfield and on the right side of defence [Wiebe de Vries, 4 July].

He said: “Leeds will now be looking for a wide player and a striker, and that will become even more pertinent if Crysencio Summerville departs.

“They could also be in the market for another right-back as well.

“Now we’re into a new financial year, I think Leeds will be active in the market. They would still like to bring in two or three players between now and when the window shuts.”

Given the Whites amassed 90 points last season and went within one goal of sealing an immediate return to the Premier League, there’s no need for mass surgery to the squad this summer.

Gray’s £40million departure to Tottenham is undoubtedly a bitter pill to swallow, but the deal also saw Joe Rodon head the other way to help the club secure their number one transfer target [Graham Smyth, 1 July].

Leeds United's Joe Rodon
Joe Rodon became Leeds United’s first signing of the summer after his loan spell last season.

Rodon arriving so early in the summer – and avoiding a bidding war with Premier League sides in the process – leaves the three positions mentioned by Jacobs as the key priorities in the rest of the market [Beren Cross, 4 July].

Summerville potentially leaving – after 31 goals and assists last season – would surely mean Daniel Farke’s side would have to pursue an adequate replacement, but could also help the club in their efforts to keep hold of fellow stars Daniel James and Wilfried Gnonto [David Ornstein, 1 July].

Farke making small tweaks to his side and continuing last season’s sterling form could be the key for the Whites to get back to the big time, and Rodon is one of the first stones laid on the path back to the top.
