Leeds United ready Rabbi Matondo transfer after Rangers exit developments

Leeds United want to sign Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo, according to Football Scotland.

The news outlet has reported (15 August) that there is “strong” interest from Daniel Farke’s in both a permanent move or an initial loan deal with an option to buy.

It is said that Matondo is expecting to leave Ibrox before the August 30 deadline alongside the likes of Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi.

It’s been a tough start to the campaign for Leeds United and that much is obvious.

In addition to being dumped out of the EFL Cup by Middlesbrough in a 3-0 battering, they only managed a late draw with Portsmouth on the opening day.

For a team that’s tipped to win the league, that’s not an ideal start.

In addition, they’ve got a tough showdown with West Brom right around the corner on 17 August.

The departures of Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray were always going to prove tough to come back from, but for Farke, the important thing to do is not panic buy.

Matondo managed five goals and three assists across 19 league games for Rangers last season (FBref). While those are fairly encouraging numbers, the 23-year-old has yet to set the world alight.

Farke is capable of transforming him in this dynamic attacking line-up, but it’ll take time, something that he may not have right now.
