Leeds United ready move for Ben Godfrey despite Ipswich Town update
Leeds United intend to reignite their interest in Ben Godfrey at the end of the season once his loan move to Ipswich Town expires, according to TBR Football.
The news outlet reported on Monday (6 January) that the Whites will look at a permanent transfer for the Atalanta loanee should Premier League promotion be secured for next season.
Elland Road had been believed to be a realistic landing spot for Godfrey, but as seems to be a running theme for Daniel Farke in January, the defender is set to open against a move to the Championship and instead join Ipswich short-term.
Leeds United will not give up on signing Ben Godfrey
Godfrey left Everton in the summer for the Serie A as part of the well-documented PSR transfer merry-go-round in the Premier League.
On paper, the deal appeared to be a match made in heaven for Godfrey, who featured only 16 times at Goodison Park last term, to play Champions League football in Italy.
However, the defender Carlo Ancelotti, once described as “intelligent” after his display against Leeds during a 2-1 loss at Elland Road in 2021 [Liverpool Echo, 3 February 2021], was no more than a bit-part player in Bergamo and has now returned to the Premier League.
He will spend the rest of the campaign helping relegation-threatened Ipswich retain their Premier League status this year while Leeds are leading the Championship and well-positioned to secure a long-awaited top flight return.

Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk are the preferred centre-back partnership at Elland Road but will undoubtedly need healthy competition should they find themselves in the top division.
Whether or not Farke’s stance on Godfrey remains heading into the summer will depend on his performances in the Premier League – his development will certainly be watched closely in West Yorkshire.
