Leeds United ready bid to sign Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez

Leeds United are ready to make a bid to sign Cagliari central midfielder Nahitan Nandez as soon as the transfer window opens, according to Centotrentuno.

The Italian news outlet, which’s based in Sardinia, claims Inter Milan and Roma also want to sign the 25-year-old, who are currently more likely to complete a deal than Leeds.

It is understood Leeds need to raise funds in order to meet Cagliari’s demands for Nandez while the Uruguay international is also keen on playing in European competition next season.

Raise funds?

We fail to see how Leeds will need to raise funds to sign Nandez from Cagliari.

Centotrentuno reports that Nandez has a release clause in his contract worth £30.9million while it’s also claimed that Cagliari may be tempted to sell their central midfielder for as low as £17.1million.

Leeds should obviously be able to afford that.

Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta spend over £100million on new players last summer after Leeds were promoted to the Premier League while funds were held back in January [David Anderson] in order to strengthen the squad in the upcoming transfer window, which opens on June 9 [Evening Standard].

Leeds have also acquired investment from the 49ers since then and that should help Andrea Radrizzani hand Bielsa and Orta a handsome budget to work with this summer.

If Nandez wants to join a club that plays in European football then that’s fair enough.

We cannot offer him that next season while other teams who want to sign him can.

However, we’re not buying for one moment that Leeds cannot afford to sign the Uruguay international, otherwise why would this report claim the Whites are lining up a bid?
