Leeds United take advantage of Coventry City woes as £8m Ben Sheaf update shared
Leeds United are ready to make a bid for Coventry City midfielder Ben Sheaf, according to Leeds United News.
The online source reports [3 January] that the Sky Blues must keep on track with financial requirements, which could lead to the club considering substantial bids for a star name.
It is understood that Coventry would listen to offers in excess of £8million in January, and while a host of Premier League clubs are keeping an eye on the situation, Leeds are keen on the player.
Sheaf’s current deal at the Coventry Building Society Arena expires in 2028.
Leeds United to sign Ben Sheaf amid Coventry City financial issues?
The 26-year-old is an extremely talented player, notching two assists in 18 league appearances so far this season, and creating a special bond in the middle of the park with Josh Eccles.
However, it seems like a less-than-sensible decision to make for £8million when Daniel Farke already has so many gifted midfielders at his disposal at Elland Road.
Joe Rothwell, Ao Tanaka and Ethan Ampadu are all fighting for the starting centre-midfield spots, and with Ilia Gruev still yet to return from injury, there will be even more competition in the future.
With automatic promotion to the Premier League the main goal this season, Farke cannot allow any exits during the January window, even if bigger clubs were to come with eye-watering bids.

Tanaka has already been tipped for bigger and better things despite only joining in the summer, and unless someone like him were to leave, signing Sheaf does not make a lot of sense.
It could be too late to revisit a move for the midfielder in the summer, though, so it might be the Whites’ only chance to add more depth to the squad, even if other areas need reinforcement first.
