Leeds United ready Adam Armstrong transfer in shock late twist
Leeds United are interested in signing Adam Armstrong from Southampton on deadline day, according to Craig Hope.
The Daily Mail journalist reported via the newspaper’s live transfer blog on Monday (3 February, 12:46 pm) that Armstrong could leave the Saints before the transfer window closes at 11 pm.
He went on to reveal that Elland Road is a potential destination for the Englishman, who is also attracting transfer interest from Middlesbrough.
Sunderland, meanwhile, have played down their interest in the forward.
Leeds United to turn to Adam Armstrong amid Cameron Archer battle
Daniel Farke’s side have had a quiet winter transfer window so far as they have signed not even a single player for the second half of the season.
However, they might be in for a busy end to the window as they look to strengthen their attack with less than 12 hours remaining on the clock.
It is no secret that Leeds United are eyeing a deadline day deal for Cameron Archer.
However, Southampton are not open to letting the former Aston Villa ace go, leaving the Elland Road outfit in limbo [Graham Smyth].
It appears the Saints are more open to sanctioning a late transfer for Armstrong instead.
That leaves the door open for Leeds to try and sign the 27-year-old as they look to provide Joel Piroe with more competition up front.
Armstrong has been a regular for the Premier League relegation-battlers this season, making 20 league appearances, but a move to the second tier may still be on the cards.
It remains to be seen if Leeds United can beat Middlesbrough to the former Blackburn Rovers ace’s signature.
