Leeds United reach Gudmundsson agreement as real transfer fee revealed

Leeds United are now in the process of finalising the permanent transfer of LOSC Lille left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson.

Junior Firpo leaving Leeds meant they had to sign a replacement for the Dominican Republic international.

The hierarchy have narrowed in on Gudmundsson and they appear to be on the cusp of getting their man.

After making nearly 150 appearances for the French club, the left-back will now continue his career at Elland Road.

Leeds will be scheduling a medical for Gudmundsson if everything goes as planned – something he’s expected to clear.

Leeds United appear to be making shrewd moves in the transfer window

Leeds United are demonstrating serious intent in the 2025 summer transfer window, bolstering their squad to avoid Premier League relegation after securing the Championship title.

The signings of Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw and the imminent arrival of Gudmundsson reflect a strategic focus on defensive solidity and versatility.

Bijol and Bornauw, both towering centre-backs with top-five league experience, add aerial dominance and physicality, while Gudmundsson’s 137 Ligue 1 appearances strengthen the left-back position post-Firpo.

Nmecha, a versatile forward, provides depth but isn’t a prolific starter.

With a robust defensive core now in place, including Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk, Leeds’ priority is a top striker.

The need for a clinical number nine is critical to complement Daniel Farke’s system and ensure Leeds’ attacking edge to secure top-flight survival.

Hopefully, there is progress being made on that front as the new striker may need a few matches in pre-season with his new teammates to be fully up to speed.
